Largest ILS Localizer Antenna in the World, Watts Model 201, First Installed in Geneva Switzerland

Herndon, VA: 7 April 2005:  Watts Antenna Company is pleased to announce the installation of the very first commercial grade Model 201 Wide Aperture Slotted Cable Localizer Antenna in Geneva Switzerland in the first quarter of 2005.  The installation is being performed by Skyguide of Switzerland and represents a cooperative effort between Skyguide and Watts Antenna, and Park Air Systems of Norway.

John H. Johnson Sr., president of Watts Antenna Company commented that “given continued delays in worldwide programs employing global positioning system (GPS) technology for precision approach, it is time to realize the airport efficiency benefits in larger aperture Instrument Landing System (ILS) localizer antennas for the foreseeable future”.

The installation began in early March with flight inspection planned for the middle of April.  The system will be evaluated by Skyguide for Category III signal-in-space performance and in demonstrating the 4000 hour mean-time-between-outage (MTBO) as specified in ICAO Annex 10, Volume 1, before the expected commissioning date in October of 2005.

Mr. Johnson stated “We are very please with the leadership and capabilities that has been demonstrated by Skyguide on other projects involving our ILS antenna products.  Watts is fortunate to have Skyguide leading the project to install the largest localizer antenna in the world and in providing their expertise to help make this milestone project a success.”
