First Installation of GP-5A Antennas at Zurich, Switzerland

Herndon, VA: 7 November 2006: Watts Antenna Company is pleased to announce that its Model GP-5A highly-directive wide aperture glide path antennas have been installed for test and evaluation on Runway 16 in Zurich, Switzerland.  The first-ever installation of these antennas, Watts worked with Skyguide (Swiss Air Navigation Services, Ltd.) closely to identify and address a number of site issues and problems that the GP-5A could solve.  Skyguide is performing a rigorous evaluation and stability testing of the antenna for Category III use.

John H. Johnson Sr., president of Watts Antenna Company, commented, “Fielding the GP-5A antennas for the first time marks a milestone for our company in the development of this antenna.  We were confident of the success for the initial deployment and expect the site evaluation and stability testing over the first half of 2007 will conclude that the antenna meets all its performance objectives. The GP-5A illustrates our continuing commitment to provide improved Instrument Landing System (ILS) antennas to meet the needs of the future.  ”

Mr. Johnson also pointed out, “Skyguide’s aggressive posture in solving difficult technical issues at problem sites is reflected in our mutual efforts with two end-fire installations at Zurich and the use of our Model 201 Super-Aperture Localizer Antenna at Geneva.   The success of this project is greatly due to the professionalism, expertise, and commitment by Skyguide, with special recognition of Herve Demule, who served as the engineering project leader on behalf of Skyguide.”
