Watts Antenna Completes New Systems Deliveries for 2006 – 2007 FAA Contract

Herndon, VA: 4 May 2007: Fifteen months into its current production contract with FAA, Watts Antenna Company has delivered five new Model 106 End-fire Glide Slope Antenna Systems (EFGS) and has completed factory-upgrades for five additional systems for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).  The FAA contract was put in place to respond to the current and projected demand for use of the EFGS at difficult sites in the U.S. over the next several years and to maximize supportability of FAA’s existing installations.

John H. Johnson Sr., president of Watts Antenna Company, commented, “Since the last production contract in 1995, FAA recognized the need for end-fire systems for a number of difficult sites and projected additional requirements in the mid-term future.  This contract reflects a solid foresight on FAA’s part to not only meet immediate needs but also to address longer term requirements with the EFGS’ most current system configuration which includes a number of product and system enhancements we have made over the last 5-6 years.”

The first of five new Model 106 EFGS delivered by Watts was installed and commissioned at Mountain Home, Arkansas, in mid-2006.  Pending final site approvals, installations at several other new sites are expected in the next 8 – 12 months.  The factory upgrades of EFGS previously delivered provides FAA an added cost-effective supply for intermediate term requirements at a number of airports.  Also, the supply of various spare assemblies, sub-assemblies, and components provides ongoing supportability as well as immediate response to emergency field requirements produced by natural and other causes.

Mr. Johnson added, “The completion of all the requirements in this contract, including engineering services and new documentation, will strongly position FAA to meet additional needs for ILS at difficult sites and strengthen all aspects of supportability for the EFGS.  We look forward to our continuing work with FAA in our mutual interest in serving the needs of the flying public.”
